I admit I'm not expecting to attract a lot of attention for this. After wanting to do it for around 7 years now, I've learned that not everyone is interested.
Anyway here goes;
Dusk is a dark themed (blood/gore/violence, themes of hopelessness, despair, war, etc) story set in the future but with magic, and beings usually associated with fantasy. Which is why it's called "Futuristic-Fantasy" and not just science fiction. It also includes aliens. Dusk is a very large setting, it takes place across the entire Lanikea Supercluster, which contains like 100 thousand galaxies. I get a tad competitive and wanted to outdo existing space faring series. This also means I'm incredibly open to anyone making their own aliens, or supernatural beings or a combination of them.
However for us humans here's the rundown of Earth. To understand the history of our people here, you must first look to the main villain. Erikur better known as Sarrum. Sarrum is a member of an ancient race known as the Seniorem. Which ruled the planet more than 50 thousand years prior. The Seniorem are or were, strong, immortal, naturals with magic, but Sarrum was the first Eximana in existence. This gave him a higher power than what even his people were capable of.
(Eximana is like our word for Mutant or Metahuman it's a person born with super powers, that the otherwise normal members of their race don't have.)
Now Sarrum is a fallen idealist. He was born to a lower class family, a slave in fact. The Seniorem were not a united people rather they had 8 different kingdoms spread throughout the lands. Sarrum was charismatic, and caring and drew others to his side, eventually leading to a rebellion that he won, and became king of his land over. During this time he was a caring and benevolent ruler, who eradicated slavery, and even made peace treaties with the other lands. He saw a brighter future for all, and even treated the newly emerging races such as Elves and Humans with respect rather than as second class citizens. Unfortunately there were those who were not ready for peace and he was assassinated only two years into his reign, which caused a massive civil collapse. Only he was not actually dead, just in a magical coma, taking on an astral form that could not directly interact with the world. For years he watched seeing the worst side that the sentient races had to offer. All of the war, hatred, segregation. Seeing that without a leader to hold their hand, people were nothing more than barbaric animals.
Finally after many years, in roughly the 12th century he was restored to life. So he's been collecting energy for thousands of years, so now he's back, and very angry. His first order of business is to instill just that "order" So given that he has enough power to crush a planet, it's not exactly hard for him to assume control of the Earth, and crush any rebellion in a short time. Still the world is a big place, it generally took him at least several years to take over any one country. Due to this any nation that did not exist before the 12th century never existed at all. The US Revolution couldn't exactly happen if they were too busy fighting a power mad, emphasis on the "power" dictator.
Sarrum however was not one to be stuck in his ways he encouraged scientific achievement, and encouraged magic and science to work together rather than against each other. This doesn't mean he had a change of heart he was still a controlling dictator, who at times slaughtered innocent civilians, and met even the most basic of disobedience with draconian punishments. In this universe we achieved space flight in the early 1800's due to the combination of magic and technology. We quickly over the next 50 years colonized the Solar System, and the year currently is 2671 so we've had about 900 years to make advancements in technology. Which is something a personal issue of mine. In a lot of space universes we hit space flight, and world colonizing levels and then just stay there, without any improvement being made. I mean I love Halo, but why are we in the 2500's using guns from modern day periods? Same with Mass Effect some of the aliens hit space faring status in like the 12th century and it's flat out stated that their technology has been largely the same since that time. I decided to say no to that. Our technology has advanced over the past nearly 900 years, allowing humanity or rather the Magistrate at least to control the entire Milkyway Galaxy, along with 81 other (mostly dwarf) galaxies.
Anyway in the last 20 years rebellion kicked up again, because for the first time in history other Eximana are starting to emerge.
------------------------
Sentient, Species, and Races that are unique to Earth;
Humans - Not sure if I really, need to say anything here.
Halfling - A Halfling is born when through magic, or genetic compatibility, two different species have a child, which is half of both.
Elves - Elves are mostly named by region. Elf and Elves are human words, for convenience. The correct term is Vadsnomb which is a made up word, with no real life, connections to any real world language.
Snow Elves - Snow Elves due to living in the cold, regions, they are big. Like powerlifters, so they're really strong, but with a lot of girth to them. Their added layers of fat and muscle help to keep them warm. Another reason for their evolved size is that they were by nature hunters, and the cold lands are not exactly abundant with food, so they needed to be strong in order to survive, and when they took down a large, animal, that weighed 500 - 1,000 lbs being able to sling it over their shoulder was much easier, than having to wait around for three or four other people to help. They are often white, gray, or black in skin color.
Snowmen - Snow Elves and Humans have interbred for thousands of years creating their own race of Snow Elf/Human AKA Snowman (singular) Snowmen (plural) Drake is a Snowman. A person born of Snow Elf and Human and a Snowman are completely separate races. It's like how dogs are descended from Wolves.
Human Elves - Elves that looks human, and come in all different shapes, colors, and sizes, and could pass for human, except for their elf ears.
Mountain Elves - The distinguish, trait of a Mountain Elf is their large chest. Their lungs are larger to have adapted for life miles above everyone else. They have bodies, built for endurance and stamina, like long-distance runners to better suit them for walking long, distances, without getting tired.
Vampires - There are four types of Vampires, two of which were made by science, I have to stop being fussy about all the different types.
Traditional - The stereotypical, blood drinkers. They have a power caste system. At the top is our Dracula. Those bitten by him are called Sovereign Class, those bitten by them are called Noble Class, then under them is the Knight Class, and everyone else is just a Vampire.
In a bit of irony, Dracula is like the Big Good of the series to our Big Bad. Dracula started off as royalty, and became a brutal. Now though he's a kind, fatherly figure. Also our technology has progressed enough to invent Vampire food, so they don't need to attack humans anymore. Our villain however, the leader of the Magistrate started life as a slave, was a kind, idealistic person, and is now a complete monster.
V2 (Vampire 2.0) - A species created by the Magistrate, their first attempt actually. They have the intellect of small children, but are physically, quite strong. They resemble Gargoyles. They eat raw materials like metal, wood, etc.
Aiola - The Aiola type is a psychic type, they feed on emotions. They are physically, weaker than the Traditional type, but often have a number of psychic abilities to even this out.
Vertex - The second, created type, and successor of the V2 program. Vertex Vampires can pass for human, are intelligent, powerful, and nearly impossible to fully kill. They feed on raw flesh.
Orc - They used to be human, but were magically, mutated, into the strong, green-skinned, seven foot, beings we know them as. Despite appearances many of them strive to be scholars in order to break away from the stereotype of being violent, thugs.
-------------------------
Creatures found across everywhere;
Magician - Anyone of any species can be a Magician, it just means a person who knows magic.
Eximana - Marvel uses the word mutant. DC uses metahuman. Eximana is the same, it's when someone is born with powers outside the norm for their species.
Were Creatures - A humanoid being who through magic or technology can transform into a humanoid version or full version of an animal.
Giants - Exactly what it says. They look like one species but are much bigger. The average human giant measures 3,660 feet. Orc giants and others are slightly larger, as big compared to them as an Orc for example is to an average human. There are some "Super Giants" however which are upwards of 5x bigger so they reach above 18,000 feet in size or nearly 3 and a half miles.
Ghosts, Spectres, Zombies etc - Spirits and reanimated bodies, through magic or science.
Robots - Pretty much every, sentient, species in the Local Group has some robots. The most advanced ones are the Hish created by the Lorein of the Dwarf Galaxy, Messier 110.
------------------------
Another Dimension;
Angels and Demons - They are not from our dimension. They come from their own. The main difference is in how they draw power. Angels draw power from stereotypically good emotions, while Demons draw them from stereotypically bad ones. However to say all good or bad is a misconception.An Angel could draw power from love. That Angel could "love" butchering small children. At the same time a Demon could be powered by hatred, and focus that hatred on murderers, and rapists.
-------------------------------------------------------
Aliens;
Vesminian Empire - They have the largest, empire there is. See while humanity has it's place conquered. The Vesminan Empire rules the entire, Andromeda Galaxy, and 373 other galaxies. However their Empire is the opposite. It's peaceful, in fact their crime rate is pretty much non-existent, and everyone works towards a common goal, because they're like humanoid bees or wasps. Their numbers are immeasurable. Physically they have a humanoid appearance, with an Exoskeleton, I have a picture somewhere. They were sort of inspired by Perfect Cell from DBZ, but with a smaller, more horned shaped head crest, as opposed to the pillar shape he has, and more yellow/black in color, and without all of the little dots.
Lorein - Don't know why aliens always have to be mutant lizards. Lorein is a species for the kids. They are a race of two foot tall, bunny-cat people. Literally they look like a mix of bunnies and cats, they share their planet with the Hish.
Hish - The Hish are an AI race created by the Lorein who they live in peace with. When they achieved sentience the Lorein welcomed them into society with full rights, and so they never had a reason to rebel, or kill their creators.
Yaromnnd - In the past humans mistook them for demons. They've even been nicknamed Demon Folk by some. They appear human, but with traditional, demon features. They have skin ranging in shades of pink to red, tails that end in sharp points, small horns on their heads. They are for their size the toughest beings, without any magic or tech, or special features. A normal Yaromnnd can press 25x his or her own weight, and the average 6'2" with weights of 230 lbs, so an average one can press nearly 3 tons.
(Those are the Aliens I currently have.)
------------------------------------------------
Secret;
The Leader of the Magistrate is a petty man, and he's not going to go down without some last minute fail-safe. It took years but he created through magic and science a race of beings he named Estil but they come to be known as The Plague.
Plague - My answer to the Xenomoprhs, Tyranids, Flood, Necromorphs, etc. Of course I intend to beat them all. The Plague or Estil as their proper name is, are a created race of monsters. They can take over both living creatures, and machinery. Not only can they infect host bodies but they can replicate themselves asexually. They can survive in any environment even space, have high level of regeneration, gain the knowledge of those they take over, and are psychic with each other in close proximity so they can share that knowledge. They don't feel pain, or fear. Their bodies have no weaknesses as they are pretty much walking packs of energy with no organs, nervous system or anything else like that. Yeah suck that Flood.
Basically the Magistrate Leader is keeping them a secret and upon the event of his death he releases them to wreck as much as they possibly can as a final "Fuck you" to the universe.
---------------------------------------------------
Locations I've thought of;
Earth - That goes without saying.
Sanctuary - A massive space station, measuring 2,176,212,260,000 square miles. It's like a much bigger version of the Citadel from Mass Effect. It's a giant, heptacontagon a polygon with 70 sides to it. simplydifferently.org/Present/Data/Uniform_Polyhedra/29.jpg
Ziat - The home world,of the Lorein, and Hish. I imagine it as fantasy, looking, world, lush in vegetation and forests, with the cities built right into the nature.
Haiaj- The Yarmonnd home world. In keeping with their ahem in keeping with their demon theme, their home is very hot, and dry, medieval looking sort of thing.
Vesma - The home world of the Vesminan Empire. I imagine it as being like a city on a planetary scale to give it an engineered, social, hive like, appearance.
Endless Forest - The Endless Forest is a magic place, in the bad sense. It's covered in thick fog, and anyone who enters the forest changes itself to tailor to their worst fears. If their fears can not be conquered the forest absorbs them. If they conquer their fears, it turns back to normal with the mist lifted looking like a normal forest that can then be passed through like normal.
Seniorem Ruins - According to google this should be Latin for Ancient Man. The Seniorem were the first humanoid race on Earth. This is what the leader of the Magistrate is, every other race is descended from them. They were a powerful, and intelligent race, and all that remains of them are ancient ruins. Most are small, no bigger than around half a mile in size. Howevers some are fully intact, cities, underground. The Seniorem were wiped out by the Magistrate's Leader in a bid to stop them from being a threat. This lead to the creation of Earth's Eximana as people who develop powers do so as a result of their dormant Seniorem genetics activating.
Lacus - A city of oh what's the word debauchery? It's like Gotham at it's worst without Batman. It's chaotic, crime filled, sort of looks like it's having a constant party.
O.R.B. (Olympus Research Base) The mountain of Olympus Mons on Mars was turned into a research base, which is now sealed off as it's filled with abominations of science. The Magistrate contained them because it would have been too much work to hunt them all down, but they were kept alive to study how they would settle into an environment in which they were free to roam. Also they sometimes throw in prisoners for fun, cause you know they're kind of jerks like that.
Of course various caves, hideouts, towers, open lands generic towns and cities, etc. will all be in various areas.
-------------------------------------------
Eximana vs Magician
Anyone can be a Magician but Eximana's are born.
The main difference is Power vs Versatility.
An Eximana has power, and while they may only have one power, they can utilize it to it's fullest extent.
A Magician can use their magic for a broad range of effects, but have less control than an Eximana. A Magician could wield all of the classical elements in their normal, basic states. An Eximana would wield one element but have control of it down to a sub-atomic level if they tried hard enough. A Magician who uses Wind would just use wind. An Eximana with air powers would control it to a level of doing things like removing oxygen from the air, or releasing powerful shock waves, etc.However the Eximana would only have wind, while the Magician could supplement with other forms of magic.
------------------------------------------------
The Magistrate goes as;
Sarrum - The Boss, Top dog, Emperor, Supreme Leader etc.
Haskan - The Vaskan answer directly to Sarrum and often in charge of over seeing whole planets.
Nolin - Answer to the Vaskan and oversee country level problems.
Gakor - Answer to the Nolin and maintain problems at the State level.
Dailum - Answer to the Gakor and tend to large cities.
Bolverk - Answer to the Dailum and overlook everything from town level and below.
Besides Sarrum the above positions are appointed, meaning there's only one per their area. A planet only has one Haskan, a small town only one Bolverk.
The Military part is set up more like our own military, but without all of the repeated ranks. It goes Corporal, Sergeant, Chief, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Colonel, General. And that's it, there's no Sergeant Master, Sergeant Bathroom Brigade, Sergeant This, Sergeant That , it's one rank.
I wanted to make up names for the ranks, then figured it might get too confusing
Rank is given on seniority in the field. A General for example of the Infantry would if on a research base be subordinate to a Corporal of that Research Base, because the Corporal is of that base, and therefore has more knowledge at hand.
Voz'Tek - Is the science, magic, research department.
--------------------------------
That's it for now, I don't think it'll grab much interest.
Anyway here goes;

That's it for now, I don't think it'll grab much interest.
